About the Color Block Knot Bag Pattern
The Color Block Knot Bag is a stylish yet simple crochet project designed with beginners in mind — a fun weekend make that you can finish in 8–12 hours.
It’s worked in YarnArt Jeans Plus, one of my favorite cotton-blend yarns! This yarn is soft but sturdy, comes in a wide range of vibrant shades, and is forgiving to work with (and even to frog, if needed!).
For this version, I combined lilac (my favorite color) for the body, sunny yellow for a playful contrast, and dark pink for the long handle — but you can easily personalize it with your own palette.
The bag measures about 26 cm wide and 39 cm tall (including the longest handle), and the simple front-loop single crochet stitch creates a beautifully dense, textured fabric without the need for lining.
Tip: If you prefer to experiment, try worsted weight or heavier yarns, and avoid single-ply types that may lack structure. You can turn up the fun by playing with textured, color-changing, or even sparkly yarns — because who said your bag can’t have a little main-character energy?
Materials You’ll Need
Here’s everything you’ll need to make your own Color Block Knot Bag:

Note: YarnArt Jeans Plus is one of my go-to yarns for bags: soft but sturdy, easy to work with, and very forgiving if you need to frog a few stitches.
You can substitute any worsted-weight or heavier cotton blend yarn, avoiding single-ply types for better structure.
How to Crochet the Color Block Knot Bag
The Color Block Knot Bag is built from three simple rectangles — one for the body, one for the long handle, and one for the short handle.
Everything is worked flat using front-loop single crochet stitches (FLSC), which create that lovely striped texture while keeping the fabric thick and sturdy.

Body (Lilac Panel)

Start: Using Color A (Lilac), chain twice the width of your bag (approx. 42 cm).

Work in rows: Crochet in FLSC until your panel reaches about half the bag’s final height (about 30 rows).

Finish: Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Fold & seam: Fold the panel in half lengthwise and seam along the bottom edge using an invisible stitch (mattress or whip stitch through back loops only). This will form the bottom of your bag.
Long Handle (Dark Pink Panel)

Start: Chain twice your desired handle length. Keep in mind that part of this handle will actually form the body of the bag – so you should consider the length from the bottom part of the bag.

Work in rows: Crochet in FLSC back and forth until the handle feels sturdy and comfy on your wrist (approx. 6 cm).

Finish & seam: Fold in half and seam along the short edge.

Attach: Sew the handle to one side of the bag body making sure you seam each half separatly to the body. Since it extends into the bag, seam its opposite side until it matches the depth of the lilac body.
Short Handle (Yellow Panel)

Start: Chain for a small strap, about one-third the long handle’s length.

Work in rows: Crochet in FLSC until it matches the long handle’s width.

Finish & attach: Fold in half, seam, and sew it to the opposite top side of the bag body.
Assembly & Finishing Touches

Weave in all ends neatly.

Lightly steam block to shape.

To close, loop the long handle through the short handle — the signature mosu bag closure.
